Henry von Pechblende is a Swiss artist and designer known for his unique approach to fashion and art under the brand Ugly Virgin. His work blends influences from Goth, Victorian Fashion, and the Lolita Subculture. His name Pechblende (Pitchblende) refers to the uranium-rich mineral Marie Curie was working with and found radium that was historically relevant for the progress and digress of humanity.

His love for the grotesque in art, fashion, and music has been part of him since. Therefore it was no surprise he would keep up his fascination for unconventional structure to spread it wherever he can and forms a distinctive aesthetic that challenges traditional notions of beauty and their identity.

He started to draw and paint, and later got into fashion and the craft of tailoring. Only to go back to paint again to create a world where painting, fashion, and sculptures meet each other.

Anemoia as a source:
Searching for a reality through pink glasses in for a world that might never existed.
Building his own universe with elements of Victorian children’s fashion and traditional Swiss Folklore elements, just to crash it with a Punk attitude smirking horror, and the melancholy of the Endzeit.
Also once called: “a Victorian children’s nightmare”.

Inner child:
Most projects feel like a session at a playground. Experimenting with familiar material, well-known techniques, and new or unconventional methods. Exploring new grounds every now and then and keep fascinated. This way his work always evolves and stays in touch with him and his audience.

Ugly Virgin:
The principle of Wabi Sabi the Japanese philosophy where old, used or broken things can get their true beauty.
Hideousness and the innocence of so-called beauty are always in the view of the beholder. Therefore Henry offers more than just fashion—his work opens a little intimate world to those who want to leave the ordinary behind.
